ââ¬ÅThe stormââ¬Â kate chopin Essay
Kate Chopinââ¬â¢s story is set in Louisiana in the mid 1900s and in it she depicts the demonstration of affection and unfaithfulness. There are two individuals in a marriage and it is significant for each gathering to feel adored, uncommon, and to get their ideal achievements. Chopin utilizes this story to delineate the enthusiastic urges that an individual can be overwhelmed with in the event that they are missing it in their own relationship. In the short story ââ¬Å"The Storm,â⬠she utilizes the scholarly components imagery, perspective, and setting to uncover her point of view on the topic of marriage and satisfaction. Kate Chopin utilizes the moving toward storm as an image of bringing the principle characters back together. The two primary characters, whom are previous darlings are Calixta and Alcee. Alcee was happening upon Calixtaââ¬â¢s house during the hour of the tempest and needed to take cover in her home while it passed. The tempest is the most critical image in the story since it is depicted as the explanation behind bringing Alcee and Calixta back together. Alcee and Calixta had not seen each other ââ¬Å"very regularly since her marriage, and never aloneâ⬠(Chopin 122) which made this moving toward storm extremely advantageous for the two since her better half and child were held up at the store and Alceeââ¬â¢s family was away. Likewise, in the story, Chopin portrays the tempest as ââ¬Å"crashing torrentsâ⬠(Chopin 123) which could represent the enthusiasm the two have for each other. The utilization of hues is additionally an indication of imagery for both the absence of energy that is in Calixtaââ¬â¢s marriage and furthermore the enthusiasm that she has for Alcee. This doesn't mean Bibinã't doesnââ¬â¢t love or care about her since it is referenced that he ââ¬Å"purchased a jar of shrimps, of which Calixta was affectionate ofâ⬠(Chopin 121) which implied he had his significant other at the forefront of his thoughts. The shading white is the most noteworthy shading utilized all through the story. White represents honesty and immaculateness and in the story it is utilized to depict Calixtaââ¬â¢s bosom and neck, and furthermore the ââ¬Å"white, fantastic bedâ⬠(Chopin 122) that she imparts to her significant other which could show that their marriage is inadequate with regards to t he affection and energy. Chopin likewise portrays Calixtaââ¬â¢s lips ââ¬Å"as red and soggy as pomegranate seedâ⬠(Chopin 123) and the shading red represents energy and furthermore peril. The story comprises of five unique areas and each segment is being told from the perspective of various character. Kate Chopinââ¬â¢s utilization of this strategy offers the perusers the chance to comprehend what is goingâ on through the eyes of each character. Bobinã't and Bibi were up to speed at the store during the stormââ¬â¢s passing which disregarded Calixta at home with Alcee incidentally appearing. The story being told in third individual omniscient tells the perusers that the storyteller comprehends what is happening in the brains of the character. For instance, right off the bat in the story the storyteller brings up that ââ¬Å"she recollected; for in Assumption he had kissed her and kissed and kissed her until his faculties would well-near failâ⬠(123), which demonstrated that the storyteller knows their musings and sentiments; this happens a great deal all through the story. At last, the setting is a critical scholarly component on the grounds that each characterââ¬â¢s story happens in various areas. While the tempest was drawing closer, Bobinã't and Bibi were at â⠬Å"Friedheimerââ¬â¢s store and chosen to stay there till the tempest passedâ⬠(121) and they spent most of the story in that area. Next, there is Calixta and Bobinotââ¬â¢s conjugal home and is the most critical setting in the story since that is the place the peak of the story happens. While Calixtaââ¬â¢s spouse and child are away she welcomes Alcee into their home where the two continue to have hotly anticipated relations with each other. At long last, there is the least noteworthy â⬠yet in any case, huge â⬠town Alceeââ¬â¢s spouse and children are away at. At long last Chopin causes it to appear that treachery can here and there be something worth being thankful for; after the undertaking it made both Calixta and Alcee better individuals as an outcome. The message of the story isn't that infidelity is possibly alright on the off chance that it is important it is somewhat that marriage is between two individuals. To have a decent, solid relationship every individual ought to satisfy of each otherââ¬â¢s needs and needs. Through her utilization of imagery, perspective, and setting, Chopin gives her perusers the comprehension of what marriage resembled and how a lady could communicate her womanly achievements in the nineteenth century. What Makes A Money - 2079 Words
Nick Principali Business Ethics Professor Gil Morejon 12 June 2015 What Is Money? Money. What is it? On the surface, the answer to this question may seem awfully simple; money is what we use to get things we need and want. Yes, it is true that money is used to buy things, yet, upon closer examination it becomes clear that this answer is insufficient in providing us with a comprehensive definition. For example, what exactly about money makes it a valuable commodity that can be exchanged for goods and services? This query alone demonstrates just how obscure the essence of money really is. Considering how ubiquitous money has always been within civilized societies, it seems rather odd that its true nature still remains so enigmatic. Furthermore, how very peculiar it is that this social form which has undoubtedly led us to remarkable advances in technology, medicine, architecture, and many more facets of human life, may also be one of our most self-defeating behaviors as well. In order to understand what money is and its functions in society, one must first understand why it initially came into being. Before money became an established socioeconomic tool, many argue that the primary form of economics was what is known as a barter system. This meant that in order to obtain certain goods or services, individuals would have to trade with one another for that which the other directly desired, a dilemma known as the double coincidence of wants. Learning Styles And Plan For Diverse Learners - 1285 Words
The research has proved that teachers should be instructing and assessing for diverse learners. ââ¬Å"However, few teachers are adequately prepared to effectively teacher diverse learners.â⬠(Edyburn, 2011, p. 38). Professors subconsciously plan to teach to the top students and view any diverse learners as a class weakness or as someone elseââ¬â¢s problem. If professors want to enhance the classroom for todayââ¬â¢s learners, they must embrace the diversity and change how they think about and respond to the learnerââ¬â¢s differences. Professors should be addressing the diversity of learners during the planning of assessments and moving away from the one size fits all paradigm. How do we address the learning styles and plan for all studentsââ¬â¢ success during the assessment? There are two frameworks that can be used to address these questions which are Understanding by Design (UbD) and Universal Design for Learning (UDL). The UbD framework was created by Wiggins Mc Tighe which includes three stages: identifying desired results or learning outcomes, deciding what evidence will show learning outcomes are met, and designing learning activities that align with the assessments. They treat the teacher as a designer. Specifically, in stage two they cover designing the assessments. As designers of assessment we must ââ¬Å"diagnose student needs to guide our teaching and to enable us, our students, and others to determine whether we have achieved our goals.â⬠(Grant McTighe, 2005, p. 13). Femininity as seen in the movies Carrie (USA, De Palma, 1976) and Ginger Snaps (Canada, Fawcett, 2001). This paper compares the use of femininity as being the other to the male norm in two horror films: Carrie and Ginger Snaps. The writer shows that in contemporary horror films the other is used as a basis for horror while femininity is the other represented in these two films. The concept of the Other has been motivating horror film since the genres inception in the early 1900s by the German expressionist movement. The Other represents that which is not of the norm, and because of this becomes an object of fear and loathing. What is not understood has always stood as a point of horror. It then stands to reason that in a patriarchal society, women are easily placed in the category of Other by the male dominated norm. Female sexuality has been demonized in mainstream horror, and the process that leads to it, puberty, shown as the cause of evil. Community as client Community as a client requires collaborative practice among nurses,à epidemiologists, genetic counselors, and social workers (Harkness DeMarco, 2012, p. 180), among others, to achieve health promotion. There are many resources available within our various communities to encourage health. A major nursing role is to assess deficits, and identify community assets for implementation of change to improve community health. Healthy People 2020 Leading Health Indicator A leading health indicator that must continue to be addressed is tobacco abuse in the adult population (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, 2010, p. 3). Nursing has a great role in creating evidence based change for this indicator. In the authors work setting, nurses can provide education toward secondary or tertiary prevention (Harkness DeMarco, 2012, p. 72) at the point of care for acute cardiac care. Nurses can also become involved in primary prevention by forming collaborative relationships with various community agencies to educate the public about risks and prevention. Nursingââ¬â¢s voice can also be heard through political expression. Membership in professional organizations and exercising our right to vote can also pave the way to primary prevention, and better health for all. Conclusion Nursingââ¬â¢s role in community health is crucial. Important skills are; knowledge of various community types, strong assessment skills, and understanding of health risks and vulnerable populations. Utilization of available resources and working collaboratively with other professionals are steps to improving overall health of the population. Appendix Housing and zoning Homes are mainly detached single family dwellings. They are well maintained. Primary construction materials are brick and board. All are modernized with plumbing and central heat. In town homes have smaller yards than township homes. All are well cared for. Transportation Transportation is mainly by private car. There are many walkers and cyclists observed. There is also a public bus system available that offers a fixed schedule. Roads are in good condition, with main highways readily availableà to serve businesses and residents. A health concern is that some of the busier roads are dangerous for walkers and cyclists due to lack of/inadequate sidewalks/crossings. There is a paved recreational trail for public use. Race and ethnicity Mainly Caucasian. There are a few African Americans, and Asians noted. There are no overt indicators of ethnicity observed. A local resident would recognize that many of the nail salons are owned and operated by people of Asian descent. Open space There are many parks and open spaces available. Along the bay front there is a large, well maintained park and public boat launch. The streets are tree lined. There is a lush 60+ acre park with many varieties of trees, and streams including public trails. Many homeless people and teens use this area as a place to drink, which poses a potential health concern for all. The physical grounds for this area were a former state psychiatric hospital, which has been reclaimed from decay. The buildings are gradually being renovated and provide space for businesses, condominiums, low income housing, senior housing, and office space. Service centers The social security and post offices are within walking distance. There is a large, easily accessible hospital, and many physician and dental offices, also within walking distance. There are several parks that are well used and maintained. There is even a dog park where people can take their pets for exercise. It is fenced in and well used. Religion and politics There is religious heterogeneity noted. On one corner there is a large Lutheran church; on another is a Jewish temple. A couple of blocks away a large Catholic church is noted. There are two smaller churches located in the neighborhood. Evidence is observed that they are not used only for Sunday service. There are posters for various community meetings, and shared sponsorship for events such as Safe Harbor, which helps shelter our homeless in the winter. Boundaries The boundaries of this neighborhood are mainly natural. On the east is the Boardman Lake, on the north is Grand Traverse Bay, the west is bordered by highway M 72, and the east is bordered by Airport Road. The unofficial description for this neighborhood is the west side, which includes bits of Old Town Traverse City, and Garfield township. Stores and street people There are several local grocery stores/meat markets that are accessible by car, bicycle, or foot. The flourishing downtown area offers many fine restaurants and bars, as well as specialty stores. Most people observed on the streets are walkers/joggers, and pedestrians making their way to a destination. Children are seen walking to/from school. There are occasional homeless people noted. All are dressed accordingly, except the teens that seem to think shorts are O.K. year round. The only stray animals are the occasional cat. Most dogs are either leashed or escorted by owners. A few people do not feel leashes are necessary. Dogââ¬â¢s that are not leashed in a public setting pose a health hazard. Health and morbidity The most obvious chronic disease conditions are obesity and tobacco abuse. Both of these conditions are serious health hazards. It is not uncommon to observe severely obese individuals/families in this community. A few compound the issue by smoking. Since Michigan banned smoking in restaurants and bars, this phenomena is much less obvious. It is still noticeable when following the car of a smoker, as one can easily smell the tobacco. Many of the homeless observed have mental health issues, as they are often in conflict with local law enforcement. Both our excellent regional referral hospital and the local Veterans Affairs clinic are within walking distance. Commons The major common area for this neighborhood is downtown Traverse City. There are many attractions for all to enjoy. Many interesting specialty stores, coffee shops, theaters, event centers, Micro-breweries, bars and restaurants make the entire downtown area a strong draw for all. Hours are mainly six A.M. to three A.M. Both locals as well as visitors enjoy the downtown and waterfront year round. Signs of decay This neighborhood is very alive and on the way up. Traverse City is a popular place to live and work. The described neighborhood is very desirable for all the reasons described above. Store fronts are occupied and busy, homes and yards are well maintained, and schools/churches are busy and are a vital part of the community. Media The most common media has become the smart phone. People are able to review local news, weather, and sports at a momentââ¬â¢s notice, all while on the go. The local newspaper is still a popular way to stay connected, as there is evidence of many regularly used home delivery tubes. Cable television is also popular for sporting events, as well as news and weather. The only outdoor antennas are satellite dishes.

Pros And Cons Argumement About the Incluence of American Culture on Irish Film essays
Pro's And Con's Argumement About the Incluence of American Culture on Irish Film essays Martin McLoone's book Irish Film: The Emergence of a National Cinema suggests that Ireland's recent birth of a creative and fertile film industry, particularly with films such as "The Crying Game" and "My Left Foot," has functioned as a kind of response to Hollywood and English representations of Ireland film. In particular, recent English portrayals of Irish violence as a "Celtic Tiger" of Catholicism, poverty, and anger, has been answered with filmed depictions such as "The Crying Game" that show that even IRA members have reasons and rationales behind their actions. Even so-called Irish terrorists, the film suggests, are not pure monsters. The activist who keeps the British solider captive takes interest in the man's girlfriend, showing that he too is human, with human desires. "My Left Foot" encompasses both the sentimental beauty of the Irish landscape, as well as the human, common drama of the frustration of living with a disability and also the parent's perspective of raising a gifted child with a disabilitya subject that is anything but beautiful, This filmed humanization of the actors of the Irish trouble's of recent date may be said to function as a kind of response to the anger of the Irish during the 1970's. Irish films of this time frame, which transpired shortly after the British occupation of Northern Ireland, were often quite militant in theme and showed a strong British versus Irish conflict with an absence of any humanization of the British side. To be Irish, it was implied, was to be anti-British and anti-English, and preferably anti-Protestant. But recently, not only have individual English people been more positively portrayed in Irish filmalthough the policies of the English legal system and English government continue to be criticized in films such as "In the Name of the Father," but a greater ...

Water Issues in California Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words
Water Issues in California - Essay Example Since the start of record keeping on the availability of the water resources in Southern California in the late 1800s, the water crisis in the area has worsened over the years. This is attributable to the growing population of the region and the false sense of security that the citizens have concerning the availability of the water resource because of the good job done by the water managers to ensure that the fountains still shoot water and the landscapes appear as healthy as ever. The city officials have pointed out that two decades ago an estimated two-thirds of the water was imported. Currently, it has reduced to half. In the same way, according to the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California; the total retail water demand in the area has reduced from 4 million acre feet between 1989 and 1990 to 3.30 million acre feet between 2010 and 2011. This shows that the Southern California residents have recognized the significance of water. In order to increase the supply of wate r in Southern California, the authorities have invested in recycling plants for water, plans are underway to clean up the contamination so that more ground water can be utilized, and implementation of mandatory water conservation programs (Gould). For many years, Southern California has been faced the issue of drought. However, only recently has it become a national call for attention. Although California is right next to the ocean, it is not easy enough just to get water from there and spread it amongst the masses. Since the ocean is full of saltwater, it becomes toxic to the body when too much is consumed. The only water our bodies are able to consume is fresh water, either from springs or recycled tap. Because California is growing and will continue to grow, the amount of water is becoming scarce. According to "The Telegraph", a trusted newspaper,

New York v. Burger Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
New York v. Burger - Research Paper Example The respondent in this case is the owner of a junkyard and his business includes dismantling of automobiles and selling the parts. The junk yard is an open lot without buildings and is surrounded by a metal fence. On the day the search was conducted police officers from the Auto Crimes division entered the respondents junk yard and conducted an inspection pursuant to Section 415-a5 of the New York vehicle and Traffic law. The officers from the division conduct similar searches on 5 to 10 vehicle dismantlers on a given day. When the officers entered the respondentââ¬â¢s yard, they asked to see his license and a police book he was required to keep. The respondent told the officers that he didnââ¬â¢t have either the license or the police book and the officers declared their intentions to conduct a search under section 415-a5. The respondent did not object and the officers took some Vehicle Identification Numbers from the parts in the yard and compared them against the police compu ter. Upon comparison of the VIN the officers determined that some of the parts were stolen and consequently arrested the respondent for being in possession of stolen items and operating a vehicle dismantling business without the required license (Bierman, 1995). The respondent sought to suppress the evidence obtained from the inspection on the ground that section 415-a5, which authorized the search was unconstitutional. The court in denying the motion to suppress the evidence observed that motor vehicle dismantling business is a pervasively regulated business and warrantless administrative inspection was appropriate. Additionally, the court observed that the statute was appropriately limited in time, place and scoop and that where the officers had a reasonable reason to believe that some of the parts in the yard were stolen, they could arrest the respondent and seize the property without the need of a warrant. The appellate Division also

Types of teachers Essay Example for Free
Types of teachers Essay Teachers A teacher could simply be defined as one who teaches, or an individual who imparts information or skill to a person. Different types of teachers have different methods of passing on their knowledge. There are three types of teachers informative, nonchalant and friendly. There are specific teachers for each students and it is the students job to figure out which type of teacher is compatible with their way of learning. First, an informative teacher is the type of teacher that gives students the most information and can be more intuitive as far as teaching. These types of teachers are basically, for students who desire someone who is straight-forward and bestows facts as well as valuable details needed in order to pass the class. Even though this can be vigorous, the student will attain a greater amount of intellect. The downside to informative teachers is that they barely have time to develop a relationship with their students, being that they are spending most their time solely teaching. Second, nonchalant teachers are the types to have most students fall asleep in class. Known to be very mono-toned and apathetic, nonchalant teachers are extremely boring in many opinions. Nonchalant teachers are known to talk slowly, this can happen from a speech impediment, slow thought, or a variety of things. A teacherââ¬â¢s slow speech can be a drag, enough to make them unlikeable if they have no other redeeming qualities. Even though this kind of teacher may be unattractive to most people, students are more likely to learn accurately due to the teachers slow speech. If a student does not learn as quickly as others, it is ideal to have a teacher who speaks slowly to help the students brain process. Finally, a friendly teacher, as the very term suggests, acts like a friend for students. A teacher-friend, in fact, combines both the guidance of a teacher and the understanding of a friend. We all, at some point of time, aspire for an understanding teacher. Such a teacher acts like our friend, philosopher and guide, every teacher should have some friendly traits. Such a teacher is more close to the students and proves to be a better educator as well. Right from the time we embark on our education trip, we come across different types of teachers. Some teachers are friendly, some are nonchalant teachers and some are informative teachers and they have different methods of passing on their knowledge there is where students begin to like the teachers, according to their own individual preferences.

1 INTRODUCTION: Haptics is a recent enhancement to virtual environments allowing users to ââ¬Å"touchâ⬠and feel the simulated objects with which they interact. Haptics is the science of touch. The word derives from the Greek haptikos meaning ââ¬Å"being able to come into contact withâ⬠. The study of haptics emerged from advances in virtual reality. Virtual reality is a form of human-computer interaction (as opposed to keyboard, mouse and monitor) providing a virtual environment that one can explore through direct interaction with our senses. To be able to interact with an environment, there must be feedback. For example, the user should be able to touch a virtual object and feel a response from it. This type of feedback is called haptic feedback .In human-computer interaction; haptic feedback means both tactile and force feedback. Tactile, or touch feedback is the term applied to sensations felt by the skin. Tactile feedback allows users to feel things such as the texture of surfaces, temperature and vibration. Force feedback reproduces directional forces that can result from solid boundaries, the weight of grasped virtual objects, and mechanical compliance of object and inertia. Tactile feedback, as a component of virtual reality simulations, was pioneered at MIT. The term haptics in its broadest sense relates to the study of touch and the faculty by which external objects or forces are perceived through contact with the body. The word itself derives from the Greek haptikos, ââ¬Å"able to touchâ⬠. Haptics can be found in wide range of devices. In the extreme with respect to precision, surgical simulators use haptics to provide realistic forces that emulate the feel of a real medical procedure. In the extreme with respect to the magnitude of t... ...lications Design and implement a few haptic related projects for the benefit of physically challenged people. This proposal develops an approach for haptic exploration of unknown objects by robotic fingers. Because haptic exploration is coupled with manipulation and exploration using a sequence of phases is presented. With specialized fingers and sensors and appropriate planning and control robots can also be enabled to explore the worlds through touch. Haptic exploration has applications in many areas including planetary exploration, undersea salvage, operations in remote and hazardous conditions. Application of the human haptic interaction, multi sensory perception, action and multimodal feedback can be applied in the fields of education, rehabilitation, medicine, computer aided design, skill training, computer games, driver controls, simulation and visualization.

Absorbent Mind – Short Essay
The term ââ¬Å"Absorbent Mindâ⬠was developed during Dr. Montessoriââ¬â¢s seven-year internment in India. During this time period Montessori was able to work with older children. This experience helped her to recognize the unique aspects of the 0-6 childââ¬â¢s absorbent mind. The absorbent mind is categorized into two levels. The first level is that of unconscious learning, the period from ages 0-3. The child at this stage is learning through absorption of the environment, as well as through their innate instinctual nature. The second level of the Absorbent Mind is called the conscious level, which occurs between 3-6. At this time the child becomes physically active in her environment, exploring and pursuing activities with a desire for learning. Another key component to Dr. Montessoriââ¬â¢s discovery of the Absorbent Mind was that of the childââ¬â¢s creative nature. ââ¬Å"To explain the Childs self construction, Montessori concluded, he must possess within him, bef ore birth, a pattern for his psychic unfolding. â⬠She referred to this inborn psychic entity of the child as a ââ¬Å"spiritual embryoâ⬠. Associated essay: Montessori: Practical Life EssayIn order for the creative nature of the psychic embryo to develop the childââ¬â¢s horme, or biological needs, must be protected during the unconscious stage. This atmosphere of nurturing will allow the childââ¬â¢s innate creative nature or psychic embryo to develop to his full potentialities. During the two levels of the Absorbent mind the child is able to absorb all things present in her environment. The child will acquire the cultural norms and language of the culture. Montessori used two analogies to describe this period of development, the sponge and the camera. The childââ¬â¢s mind is like that of a sponge, absorbing everything in the environment. In the camera analogy, we think of the 0-3 child having taken pictures during the unconscious stage of development. Later the O-6 child will be able to develop these ââ¬Å"picturesâ⬠or experiences and apply them to their direct learning. The role of movement for the 0-6 c hild is critical. As the child begins to move in the environment he experiences the surrounding objects. This experience of movement will enable the child to transition from the unconscious to the conscious learner.Dr. Montessori studied many different children, from many various cultures and through her observation she recognized that all these children were undergoing the same developmental process of the absorbent mind. Dr. Montessori went on to emphasize that the power of the Absorbent Mind is universal to all children. In order for the educator to aid the development of the child, she must create a prepared environment. This environment will allow for the childââ¬â¢s free exploration and most importantly the activity of the hands.

The American And American Culture - 1970 Words
As a child, growing up in a predominantly Hispanic middle class community in East Carson California, I never felt different from anyone. I did not understand what it meant to be a little Mexican brown girl until I moved to a different part of Carson at the age of 12. From the day I was born to the age of 12, I had always lived in East Carson where it was predominantly Hispanic. I was raised in a household that incorporated our Mexican culture and traditions. My grandparents came from a generation of ââ¬Å"Machismoâ⬠but the ââ¬Å"Machismoâ⬠skipped the later generations of my parents. My parents and my extended family were very supportive and encouraged me that my gender was nothing to hold me back and constantly reminded me that I had American privilege and opportunities that they did not as immigrants. I never understood what they meant until I reached adulthood and everything became apparent. As an adult I did come to understand that my gender would be an issue to the outside world both in Mexican and American culture. Furthermore, I came to understand that I did indeed have American privilege as my immigrant parents and other family members did not. To be successful in America as a Latina meant I had to replace my traditional Mexican values with the oneââ¬â¢s preferred by the Western world. Coming from a family of immigrants I started to understand that Mexicans were the outsiders in the States because we were the unwanted. The Evolution Of A Protein Enzyme - 2208 Words
Over the past years the last universal common ancestor (LUCA) has been debated on what exactly it is. It is known to be the start of all living things. Many scientists suggest that LUCA is simply a formation of molecular fragments that evolution has played a role on. Others argue about if LUCA was a cell or not. Overall, with the most recent research and proof, the LUCA is a complex cell in which has similar cell structure to the common cell we study today. According to intensive research, they have found storage of polyphosphate within the organelle that once was assumed to be lost in bacteria and archaea. This validation of research has proven to be in three main domains such as archaea, eukaryotes (animals, algae, plant, and etc.) and bacteria (Science Daily. 2008). Due to the commonality of this structure, there have been scientists who refer and compare to the organelle in singled-cell eukaryotes called acidocalcisome. A protein enzyme within the acidocalcisome is traced back in history that is common all throughout the bacteria, archaea and eukaryotes. This protein was then used to distinctively make a so-called family tree to trace back through time through all three of these domains. This tree has shown the various different genes that were commonly related to each three domains as well as being compared to the tree constructed for the universal common ancestor. With the few distinct evidence provided, the LUCA was hypothesized to be a more complex than the mostShow MoreRelatedWhat Can Studies Of Serine Proteases Tell Us About The Relationship Between Protein Structure, Function And Evolution?887 Words à |à 4 PagesWhat can studies of serine proteases tell us about the relationship between protein structure, function and evolution? Literature Review on Construction of Healthcare for Aged
Question: Discuss about the Literature Review on Construction of Healthcare for Aged. Answer: Literature Review The literature review is based on a risk management plan in the construction of healthcare for aged people. The identification of risks in construction project follows a systematic way to analyze the risks and then respond to the risks in order to achieve the objectives of the project. The benefit of this risk management plan is to identify the risks and analyze it using quantitative risk analysis technique to make improvement in the construction of healthcare project (McNeil, Frey Embrechts, 2015). Contingency plan and funding are required to plan for the improvement of risks and mitigates it using best possible techniques. Introduction The healthcare sector is always under aggressive pressure to upgrade as well as enlarge their infrastructure as per the current and advanced technologies. Bromiley et al., (2015) stated that as new technology increases the demand of the aged people and patient, therefore it requires building and constructing a healthcare for them. Banerjee (2016) opined that when there is a high probability of risk in constructing of healthcare, then the risk management team should plan for managing the risk with keep in mind the health and protection of the patients. Risk Management Each of the construction projects within the healthcare sector needs risk assessment plan to give a better environment to the aged people. Therefore, pre-construction planning is required to start the project plan. Driver and Bernard (2012) discussed the healthcare construction plan should ensure people that they are following renovations of their healthcare based on rules and regulations of the healthcare sector, federal as well as local laws. Paape and Spekle (2012) pointed that during the planning process of the healthcare; firstly, the design engineers should develop high detailed design drawings of the healthcare infrastructure and then planned for further innovations. The planning process should take entire infrastructure, which supplies the construction area. Tolerance of risk Grotsch, Blome and Schleper (2013) stated that there are three various viewpoints of risk tolerance in the construction project such as project manager, stakeholder as well as the organization. The risk tolerance of the organization is based on the financial stability of the organization as well as diversification (Christoffersen, 2012). The risk tolerance of the project manager reflected security of a job as well as organizational culture. Finally, stakeholder's is based on objectives of the project plan. Sometimes, there is a failure in an interaction between project stakeholder as well as a manager. Thamhain (2013) argued that the organizations acceptance of the risk changes throughout the project duration. In the below curve, it is seen that from the week 1 to week 4, there is a constant rise in project risks. Therefore the risk management team takes proper step to reduce those risks. In week 5, week 6 and week 7, the risk decreases and finally in week 8, the risk tolerance reduc es to 2. Figure 1: Risk tolerance curve (Source: Created by author) Decision making under risk Mansfield et al., (2015) opined that the financial, as well as industry status, affects the risk tolerance of the construction project. Mace et al., (2015) argued that due to limited resources of the healthcare sector the risk management team takes a decision to overcome the issues. The risks, which are raised in the construction project, are due to over budget, lack of communication, finish late, out of scope as well as improper project management plan. Most of the participants are not agreeing with risk tolerance levels; therefore, it influences levels of a project lifecycle. With time, this risk leads to costly to the organization. Hajdu (2013) concluded that most of the risks are related to negative outcomes due to lack of understanding of risk tolerance factors. Therefore, decision making under risk is required to construct the healthcare for aged people so that the healthcare infrastructure should be constructed within time and budget as an estimate (Lam, 2014). The organizatio n should have best organization culture in order to support proper decision taking steps as well as innovation. Pre-construction plan is taken as better decision-making process for selected construction project. Risk Management Process Risk management plan Hwang, Zhao and Toh (2014) stated that in order to overcome with the risks of the construction project, at first a risk management plan is required to identify the risks in the project work. It is the responsibility of project manager to identify emerging risks. For controlling the risks, the project manager should plan for services; estimate the deadline of risks, quality assurance, and analysis of the construction contracts. Hwang and Ng (2013) discussed the risk management plan consists of three processes such as risk identification, risk response as well as risk control. These three processes are required for the construction project plan. Identification of both internal, as well as external factors, is required so that the management team should take possible steps to overcome with those risks for successfully constructs the healthcare infrastructure. Figure 2: Risk management plan (Source: Hwang Ng, 2013, pp-277) Risk Identification Kikwasi (2013) opined that risk identification determines which risks are affecting the construction project of healthcare. It should be performed on the daily basis throughout the entire project plan. Risk identification deals with both interiors as well as exterior risks of the project. Wirba, Tah and Howes (2012) concluded that the internal risks are a budget estimation and assignments of staff. The external risks are those, which are beyond the control of the project team. The tools and techniques, which are used to identify the risks, are brainstorming, survey, feedback from the employees, workshops as well as interviews (Kerzner, 2013). The risk management team identifies the following risks while constructing a healthcare for aged. Error in the design of the healthcare infrastructure: The design manager should design a healthcare infrastructure, which should meet the project goals. Hwang, Zhao and Toh (2014) pointed that error in the design of the infrastructure while designing will result in poor planning. The design of the structure is vital for any construction project plan. Risk due to not using usual construction agreements: Each of the construction project plans should follow the construction agreements. Grotsch, Blome and Schleper (2013) argued that if the construction team does not follow the construction rules and regulations, then there is a chance of a breakdown of the healthcare building. This particular healthcare project should follow strict rules based on the project plan. Schedule risk: Within estimated time, the construction of the project is not possible to do. It will influence the finish date of the plan, which gives an adverse effect on the budget (Kendrick, 2015). The time delay is due to lack of resources and improper planning. Raw materials and equipment issue: In the case of a construction project, the raw materials as well as equipment used not of best quality. Therefore, there is a chance of a breakdown of the healthcare building (Rigby Bilodeau, 2015). The management should review the quality of the raw materials before its usage. Procurement risk: There is a risk of lack of specialized expertise for the project work. Sometimes, the experts and labors work for the project have a lack of skills to design the infrastructure. As this healthcare is constructed for aged people, therefore it uses many advanced technologies equipment to build the IT infrastructure (Driver Bernard, 2012). If the labors have the lack of technical knowledge, then they are not able to construct the proper infrastructure for the project work. Security risk: The security of the blueprint of the healthcare infrastructure is required. The share of the blueprint with others as well as any third party should hamper the entire project work (Kendrick, 2015). The risk of not putting project insurance: The risks arise when the construction team is not placing project insurance when the project is valued of $1 billion. They are required to put their plan under the construction insurance program. The insurance policies of the contractor are not covering the policies under the insurance rules and regulations. Budget risk: A construction project requires a high value of cost to build the building. As it is healthcare construction plan, therefore high cost of equipment is required for the aged people to take care of their health (Pritchard PMP, 2014). However, the plan requires enough funding. Risk Analysis Wirba, Tah and Howes (2012) opined that within the construction project, scheduling of the project plan is considered as mainly critical factors. In order to analyze the identified risks, PERT technique is used to identify the duration of the risks for the project work. This technique takes part of the uncertainties, which are recognized in the construction process. Due to the risks in the project, it takes more time to complete the plan as estimated. Grotsch, Blome and Schleper (2013) stated that the PERT technique is used to carry out the schedule risk assessment of the construction project. It will stimulate the time taken by each of the risks. Then, the actual time was taken and probability to complete the plan is estimated. Hwang, Zhao and Toh (2014) stated that using the PERT technique; the construction team could identify the total duration of the identified risk in the project plan. In order to estimate the total time, at first optimistic, pessimistic and most likely time are estimated for the risks to occur. Mansfield et al., (2015) opined that optimistic time is the shortest time taken by the risk to be mitigated. Pessimistic time is the maximum time period to be taken to complete it. It has assumed that those risks can exceed the total time from the estimated time. Wirba, Tah and Howes (2012) argued that most likely is the time taken by the team to analyze it if it is repeated time by time. Qualitative risk analysis: Risk Register The risk analysis is done using the risk register matrix; the identified risks are categorized as shown in the below table. The risks are identified based on its probability and impact on the healthcare construction project plan (Driver Bernard, 2012). Each of the types of risks is ranked based on its consequences on the project plan. Risk ranking Risk types Responses Impact Likelihood Probability 1 Design error Accept Medium High Very high 2 Usual construction agreements Mitigation Medium Medium Moderate 3 Schedule risk Accept High Low Moderate 4 Raw materials and equipment risk Accept Medium High Very high 5 Procurement risk Mitigation Medium Low Moderate 6 Security risk Accept High Medium Moderate 7 Not putting insurance Avoid Low Low Low 8 Budget risk Accept Medium Medium Moderate Impact Likelihood Very low Low Medium High Very high Very high High Design error, Raw materials and equipment risk, Medium Usual construction agreements, Budget risk Security risk Low Not putting insurance Procurement risk Schedule risk Very low Figure 3: Risk register matrix (Source: Driver Bernard, 2012, pp-267) Quantitative risk analysis: PERT The following table shows the possible time taken by the team to analyze each of the risks based on its effects on the project plan. For doing the quantitative risk analysis, PERT technique is used to identify the total time taken to complete the analysis of the risks (Hajdu, 2013). The formula used to calculate the total duration for the identified risks is: te= (to + 4* tm + tp)/6 where, te= expected time to= optimistic time tm= most likely time tp= pessimistic time Risks analysis Optimistic (to) in days Most likely (tm) in days Pessimistic (tp) in days Total duration (te) in days Design error 6 12 30 14 Usual construction agreements 3 6 15 7 Schedule risk 3 9 27 11 Raw materials and equipment risk 4 19 28 18 Procurement risk 3 9 27 11 Security risk 2 5 8 5 Not putting insurance 1 4 7 4 Budget risk 6 12 30 14 Plan Risk Response Risk type Response Comment Design error Accept The Design Manager gives a response to this risk by proper designing of the blueprint of the healthcare building. Usual construction agreements Mitigation It is mitigated by following the construction agreement while constructing the buildings (Wirba, Tah Howes, 2012). Schedule risk Accept Proper estimation of schedule Raw materials and equipment risk Accept Proper collection of resources as per the construction requirements Procurement risk Mitigation Recruitment of proper experts with accurate skills and knowledge of construction (Grotsch, Blome Schleper, 2013). Security risk Accept Authorization of the information is required. Not putting insurance Avoid Insurance risks are avoided as it is based on companys requirements. If it is not required, then it cannot give bad effect on the construction (Hajdu, 2013). Budget risk Accept Proper estimation of budget Mitigating risk and avoiding risk Type of risk Risk owner Mitigation process Error in the design of the healthcare infrastructure Design Manager The manager should design an accurate blueprint for their healthcare infrastructure. Risk due to not using usual construction agreements Project Manager Proper follow and support of the construction rules and regulations should be done (Mansfield et al., 2015). Schedule risk Project Manager The person should estimate the schedule of the project plan as per the requirements of the construction work. Purchase order issue Procurement Manager The requirements equipment as well as raw materials are purchased on time otherwise, it delays the entire project duration (Hwang, Zhao Toh, 2014). Procurement risk Procurement Manager Recruitment of required skills experts is to be done. Security risk Risk Manager The data such as blueprint, financial report should be kept secured from unauthorized use of third party person. Risk of not putting project insurance Project Manager Insurance policies should be followed before starting the construction work (Thamhain, 2013). Budget risk Project Sponsor The person should estimate the budget of the project plan as per the requirements of the construction work. Contingency planning Mace et al., (2015) stated that the contingency plan for the construction project helps to mitigate the identified project risks during assessing the risks if there are chances of increasing the risk and gives an adverse effect on the healthcare project plan. Risk event Contingency plan Trigger Responsibility to make contingency plan Non-delivery of the raw materials and equipment on time Pre-ordered of the raw materials before appointment of contractors Support from the top management team Supply Manager Lack of availability of resources Recruitment of more resources is required with best skills and knowledge to work on a construction project (Kendrick, 2015). It is not solved in 1 day. Procurement Manager Risk of getting approval Early consultation with the government is required to get permission to construct the healthcare for aged people. Support from the top management team Project Manager Failure in ICT Establishment of back up procedures before failure of the ICT services (Mace et al., 2015). Failure in the equipment Project Manager Lack of equipment Required equipment should be ordered before starting the construction work. Still, it is not solved in 7 hours. Procurement Manager Lack of funds Pre-collection of a fund is to be done before a shortage of money for the project. Support from the top management team Project Sponsor Contingency funding Bromiley et al., (2015) stated that funds are covering the risks of this construction project are the contingency funds. After preparing the contingency plan, the project manager estimates the total funds required to mitigate the risks. Hajdu (2013) concluded that there are two types of the fund for the project such as budget management reserve fund. The budget reserve fund is to be set up for those risks, which are identified, and management fund for those, which are still not identified. In order to make progress in the project, the budget reserve fund for the project decreases. Based on the assumption, the following contingency funding is categorized as follows: Risk types Budget baseline Budget reserve Project budget Design error $400 $15 $415 Risk due to not using usual construction agreements $300 $16 $316 Schedule risk $200 $18 $218 Purchase order risk $200 $23 $223 Procurement risk $340 $25 $365 Security risk $450 $23 $473 Risk of not putting project insurance $230 $21 $251 Budget risk $380 $11 $391 Subtotal $2500 $152 $2652 Management reserve ------- ------ $50 Total $2500 $152 $2702 Change control management Driver and Bernard (2012) opined that change control is considered as the process which is mainly used to recognize, document as well as approve the changes to the construction project work. The change control process for this construction of healthcare project considers the following elements such as: Documentation of the proposed changes: Bromiley et al., (2015) opined that in order to overcome with the construction risks, the change request is to be documented properly such that all the management team should be informed about the change request status. Documentation of new construction rules and regulations: The new rules, as well as regulations of the construction project, should be documented such that the construction team should follow it at the time of building the healthcare infrastructure (Thamhain, 2013). Testing of the quality of raw materials: Hajdu (2013) argued that the project manager properly checks the quality of the equipment as well as raw materials such that no quality assurance risks occur in the project. Development of construction standard: Each of the construction standards is developed as per the business requirements. It should be constructed in such a way such that the place should be comfortable for the aged people. Conclusion It is concluded from the literature review is that use of new advanced technology for construction of healthcare for aged people increases their level of satisfaction. However, there is a high probability of occurrence of risks in the construction project. Therefore, the project should manage their risks by following a risk management plan. Their plan should make sure that the aged people and other people are satisfied with renovations of their healthcare based on rules and regulations, federal as well as local laws. The risk management plan consists of three processes such as risk identification, risk analysis and risk control to overcome with the risks. In order to analyze with identified risks, quantitative and qualitative risk analysis are to be done. Qualitative risk analysis is done using risk matrix, and quantitative risk analysis is done using PERT technique. It is used to carry out the schedule risk assessment of the construction project. It will stimulate the time taken by each of the risks. Finally, contingency planning and funding is done to mitigate the risks in the construction project. References Banerjee, B. (2016). Physical Therapist Assistant (major)
My major is physical therapy. Physical therapist assistants perform their duties under the supervision of physical therapists. Core duties of physical therapist assistant include assisting patients to recover from illnesses, injuries, and surgeries. These are procedures, which help patients to manage pain and regain balance during movement.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Physical Therapist Assistant (major) specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More In addition, therapies are developed to enhance mobility, reduce permanent physical disability, and improve general conditions and fitness of patients (American Dental Education Association 1). Patients could be persons with short-term or long-term physical disabilities, heart conditions, head injuries, back pain, cerebral palsy, or arthritis. A number of reasons have influenced me to major as a physical therapy assistant. Physical therapists have highââ¬âlevels of educati on in the anatomy, locomotion, and operations of the body. Knowledge gained in physical therapy education helps the therapist to lessen aches, assist patients to move, avert permanent disabilities, and re-establish physical functions. Hence, a physical therapist is an important part of patient care. Foundations of therapistââ¬â¢s work are practical training and therapeutic activities. Patients have different needs based on their conditions. However, physical therapists aim to initiate movement or operations by activating joints or working on muscles. In addition, physical therapists also apply other methods like ultrasound, hot packs, electrotherapy, and ice to treat their patients (Kilgore College 1). Career as a physical therapist has great rewards. These specialists make a difference in individualsââ¬â¢ lives. Physical therapists work with patients closely and watch their progress through various stages of treatment. A physical therapist remains a rehabilitation specialist who promotes the patientââ¬â¢s maximal recovery and functions. The job also involves restoring mobility through fitness and wellness therapies, which improve the patientââ¬â¢s overall health and active life. A career as a physical therapist offers a job security. The job is resilient to economic downturns and struggling job markets. Today, the large number of aging Americans has driven the demand for physical therapists. Specifically, American baby boomers have become prone to chronic conditions and common health problems, which require them to seek services of physical therapists. The Bureau of Labor Statistics notes that the demand for physical therapists would rise by 46 percent between the year 2010 and 2020 (Bureau of Labor Statistics 1). This rate of growth is faster than the average rate of growth in the job market because of health care needs of the aging population. This is good news for students of physical therapist assistant.Advertising Looking for essay on al ternative medicine? Let's see if we can help you! Physical therapists help others to regain or attain their normal movement abilities and conduct their daily life activities. Surveys have shown that physical therapy job has an overall highest job satisfaction level (American Physical Therapy Association 1). More than a three-quarter of physical therapists who take part in surveys report that they are ââ¬Ëvery satisfiedââ¬â¢. Certainly, this is the only best performing health care profession in terms of job satisfaction. Physical therapists can perform their roles in any location with clients of different ages. As a result, they have a wide range of areas and settings for work, which may include outpatient clinics, private offices, hospitals, schools, sport facilities, health and fitness centers, and home health care facilities among others. Finally, physica l therapy education would elevate me to be my own boss. A large number of physical therapists work as private consultants or own their physical therapy facilities. Education is necessary for physical therapy assistant. Students should get a CAPTE-accredited two-year associate degree program (American Physical Therapy Association 1). This allows graduates to sit for a national examination for the license and allows them to join the profession of physical therapy with the necessary skill, behaviors, and knowledge. Most states need the certificate or license in order to work as physical therapist assistant. Education would ensure that a physical therapist assistant is competent, adaptable, knowledgeable, and self-assured to provide physical therapy services. Physical therapy assistant education ensures that the graduate can perform the job, gather patientââ¬â¢s information, ensure safety, and respond to all instructions as provided by the physical therapist in a manner that that mee ts legal, ethical, effective, and safe practices of the profession. Moreover, a physical therapist assistant requires education in order to learn how to communicate with other stakeholders, clientââ¬â¢s family, and caregivers, as a team and cooperatively with others in the health care sector.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Physical Therapist Assistant (major) specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More The career of a physical therapist assistant is exciting, flexible, and highly rewarding, but students require necessary qualifications to join the profession.
